If you like being driven, or need to reach your accommodation without a car, a taxi is still the simplest option in Corsica. It takes a little planning: taxis are plentiful in the towns and at the airports, but much scarcer in the villages.

Taxis and VTC in Corsica

Taxis are self-employed drivers or small firms based in a commune, where they have their rank. VTC (voitures de transport avec chauffeur, private hire vehicles) also exist, but there are few of them, and the ride-hailing apps used on the mainland work poorly or not at all on the island. Don’t count on an app to find a car at the last minute: book a taxi or a transfer in advance.

Where to find a taxi

  • At the airports, taxis wait outside the terminal from the first to the last flight of the day. The airport websites list the taxi firms that work there: Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Figari.
  • At the ports, when the ferries arrive, especially in Bastia and Ajaccio.
  • Outside the Chemins de fer de la Corse (Corsican railways) stations, in the main towns.
  • In town, at taxi ranks.

In the villages, there are often only one or two taxis, or none at all: ask your accommodation or the tourist office for a number.

How much does a taxi cost?

Taxi fares are regulated. A national order sets maximum rates each year, and the prefect of each department (Corse-du-Sud and Haute-Corse) sets the fares that apply within those limits. For 2026, the national ceilings are:

ItemMaximum in 2026
Pick-up chargeup to €4.48
Price per kilometreup to €1.30 at the daytime rate
Hourly rate for waiting or slow trafficup to €42.15
Minimum fare€8, supplements included
Supplements€4 per passenger from the fifth onwards, €2 per bulky item of luggage

The rate per kilometre goes up at night, on Sundays and on public holidays, and when the taxi has to return empty, which is common for a long trip to a village. Ask for a quote before setting off on any journey of more than a few kilometres: a trip between the airport and a distant destination can cost over a hundred euros.

Booking ahead

In July and August, and for any late arrival, book your taxi several days ahead: when a large flight or a ferry arrives, the queue can be long, and there are not always enough local taxis. This is even more true for a long transfer, for example from Bastia airport to Calvi or from Figari to Propriano. The day before, confirm the pick-up time and the price quoted.

Alternatives to a taxi

  • Airport shuttles: line 11 in Ajaccio to the town centre, the Bastia shuttle to the station, the Figari shuttle to Porto-Vecchio. The details are on our page about flying to Corsica.
  • The train, between Bastia, Corte, Ajaccio, L’Île-Rousse and Calvi: see trains in Corsica.
  • The Via Corsica regional coaches, mainly in the south and west: see getting around Corsica.
  • A hire car, available at all four airports: see car hire in Corsica.
