Where to stay

Hotels in Bonifacio: where to stay, area by area

Old town, harbour or seaside: choose the area first, then the place to stay.

Best for

Bonifacio has few places to stay in its two historic districts, the old town, perched on the cliffs, and the Marina, on the harbour. Most are hotels, with a few apartments and rooms in private homes. Outside the centre, holiday complexes and villas join the hotels: on the Santa Manza road, to the east, then near Suartone and Rondinara beach, to the north.

So the choice comes down to two ways of staying. In town, you live on foot, between the lanes of the citadel and the boats in the harbour, but you have to cope with pedestrian streets and parking. On the coast, you gain peace and the beach, at the cost of taking the car for every outing.

The areas run from the centre outwards. For each one, you will find what sets it apart, who it suits, then our places to stay, with their Booking rating and the date it was recorded. The map shows them all, and our tips help you decide. The Piantarella and Sperone area, at the south-eastern tip, has no places to stay in our selection yet: see our guides to Piantarella beach and Grand Sperone.

The areas

Where to stay, area by area

4 areas, 15 places to stay · Visit Bonifacio

1The old town

In the lanes of the citadel, quiet in the evening once the day visitors have left. Pedestrianised in season: think about your luggage.

Park down below and plan to walk up the ramps that lead from the Marina. The clifftop path to the Pertusato lighthouse starts in the old town.

Best for : on foot · quiet

Two hotels and two simpler options, an apartment and a homestay room. For a hotel you can drive up to, try the Santa Manza road instead.

2The Marina

On the harbour, handy for the boats and the restaurants, and lively until late.

The quays are pedestrianised in season: ask your accommodation how to get there by car and where to park. You can walk up to the old town by the ramps that climb from the harbour.

Best for : on foot · lively in the evening

Mostly hotels, none more than 200 m from the harbour. For quieter nights with the town on foot, the old town is just above.

3The Santa Manza road

East of the town, towards the gulf of Santa Manza and Gurgazu, quieter and close to the beaches.

For the town, park at the Valli car park, linked to the Marina by a free shuttle in summer.

Best for : by car · quiet · near the beach

The widest range in Bonifacio, from hotel to villa, none much more than 2 km from the Santa Manza marina.

4Rondinara and Suartone

To the north, between Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio, for a beach holiday. A car is essential. See also our beach guide.

Allow 20 to 30 minutes’ drive to Bonifacio, outside summer and without stopping. Staying here, you reach Rondinara beach early, before the summer crowds.

Best for : by car · near the beach · with children

Just one place, in Suartone. Rondinara beach, with its shallow, gently shelving water, suits children.

Tips

How to choose

First decide whether you will have a car

Without a car, stay in the old town or at the Marina: you can do everything on foot, including the boat trips. With a car, the Santa Manza road and Rondinara bring you closer to the beaches.

Ask where to park

The old town and the Marina quays are pedestrianised in season. Before booking, ask the accommodation how to get there by car and where to leave it.

Think about your luggage

You reach the old town on foot, up the ramps from the Marina. With a large suitcase, a place on the harbour or outside town will make arriving easier.

Book early for July and August

The two historic districts have few places to stay: for summer, book as soon as your dates are fixed. May, June and September are still the best time to visit the town.

Check the date of the rating

Each Booking rating is shown with the month it was recorded. An older rating is worth checking against recent reviews on Booking before you book.
