Where to stay

Hotels in L’Île-Rousse: where to stay, area by area

A small town where everything is within walking distance, and hilltop villages if you have a car.

Best for

L’Île-Rousse is a small town you can cross on foot, between place Paoli, Napoléon beach and the port. Its places to stay fall into three areas close to one another: the centre, the seafront, and the station and port. Outside town, the Calvi road leads towards the beaches of Bodri and Corbara, and the Balagne villages look down on the coast.

Our listings cover hotels, found in every area, aparthotels and holiday residences, apartments and a holiday home. Guest houses and B&Bs are on the Calvi road and in the villages.

In town, you can manage without a car; in the villages, you will need one. Each area below opens with a short portrait and the travellers it suits. Then come the places to stay, with their distance from a landmark (place Paoli, the beach, the station, a village) and their dated Booking rating. The map shows every address, and the tips at the bottom of the page help you decide. For the town, Pietra island and the covered market, see our L’Île-Rousse guide.

The areas

Where to stay, area by area

5 areas, 25 places to stay · Visit L’Île-Rousse

1The centre and place Paoli

Within walking distance of everything: market, restaurants, beach and station.

In the evening, life centres on place Paoli, under the plane trees, with its cafés and terraces. In summer, parking spaces are scarce in the centre: use the car parks at the entrance to the town.

Best for : on foot · lively in the evening

Mostly hotels, no more than 550 m from place Paoli. If having the sea outside matters more than café terraces, the seafront is close by.

2The seafront

Along Napoléon beach, with the sea right outside. See also our beach guide.

The walk along the causeway to the Pietra lighthouse is a sunset stroll. The centre and the covered market are close by.

Best for : near the beach · with children · on foot

Hotels and aparthotels, none more than 200 m from the beach. Napoléon beach has shallow water, lifeguarded in season: this is the area we recommend with children.

3The station and the port

Convenient if you arrive by ferry or by train.

The Balagne train leaves from opposite the port for Calvi and the beaches, and the boats to the Agriates leave from here. Without a car, this is the easiest area.

Best for : on foot

Mostly hotels, none more than 250 m from the station. The simplest choice for a night before or after the ferry.

4The Calvi road

Towards Bodri and Corbara, quieter, close to the beaches served by the train.

Without a car, the Balagne train takes you to the centre of L’Île-Rousse or to Calvi, with no need to look for parking.

Best for : quiet

The widest range: hotel, holiday home, B&B, holiday complex and apartment. Depending on the address, the beach is a few hundred metres or nearly two kilometres away: check the distance on each listing.

5The villages of the Balagne

Monticello, Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna or Corbara, up on the hills, with a view. You will need a car.

You are as close as you can get to the other hilltop villages, such as Pigna. In summer, head down to the beach early: in town, parking spaces are scarce.

Best for : by car

Aparthotels, a hotel, B&Bs and a holiday home, around Monticello and Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna.

Tips

How to choose

Without a car, stay in town

The centre, the seafront and the station area are all walkable. **The Balagne train then takes you to the beaches and to Calvi**, with no need to look for parking.

Arriving by ferry? Stay near the port

If you land at L’Île-Rousse, the station and port area spares you any extra journey on the first evening.

Think about parking

In summer, spaces are scarce in the centre: use the car parks at the entrance to town. Ask your accommodation whether it has parking.

Lively evenings or quiet nights

Place Paoli stays busy late into the evening. For a quiet night’s sleep, look at the Calvi road or the Balagne villages instead.

Travelling with a dog

Dogs are banned from the town’s beaches, as they are at Bodri. If yours is coming with you, also check the property’s conditions on its Booking listing.
