Hotels in Calvi: where to stay, area by area

Harbour, citadel, pine forest, hillside or villages: the area you pick decides whether you will need a car.

Best for

Calvi is split between a lower town round the harbour, a citadel on its promontory and a long beach lined by the pine forest. Around it, the hillside along the Pietramaggiore road, the Revellata road and the villages of Lumio and Calenzana offer other, quieter ways to stay.

Our listings cover hotels, aparthotels and holiday complexes, apartments, holiday homes and, in the villages, B&Bs. The hotels are in the centre, along the pine forest and on the hillside. In the citadel, as on the Revellata road, we list only one address.

In Calvi, the area decides whether you will need a car. Each area below opens with a description and the travellers it suits. Then come the places to stay, with their distance from a landmark (the harbour, the citadel, a village) and their dated Booking rating. The map shows every address, and the tips at the bottom of the page help you decide. For the town itself, its ramparts and trips to Scandola, see our Calvi guide.

The areas

Where to stay, area by area

6 areas, 22 places to stay · Visit Calvi

1Town centre and harbour

The most convenient option without a car: the station, the port, restaurants and boat departures are all within walking distance. Lively in the evening in summer, so it can be noisy.

If you come by car, the commercial port car park takes long stays. There is no regular shuttle from the airport: plan on a taxi.

Best for : on foot · lively in the evening

Hotels, aparthotels and an apartment, none more than 350 m from the harbour. If noise bothers you, the citadel is a few minutes' walk away, uphill.

2The citadel

A few places to stay inside the walls, for quiet evenings and the view. Parking is for residents only: plan to park down below.

You walk up by a flight of steps from the lower town, so travel light. In the evening, the walk round the ramparts is free, with the view over the bay and the Revellata.

Best for : on foot · quiet

We list only one apartment here. For a hotel with a view of the bay, look at the hillside.

3The pine forest

Along the beach, between the town and the airport. Practical for families, with the Balagne train to get into the centre.

The beach has lifeguards from mid-June to mid-September, but dogs are not allowed. The pine forest car parks charge from June to September: ask whether your accommodation has parking.

Best for : near the beach · with children

Calvi's most varied area: hotels, holiday complexes and an apartment, no more than 1.2 km from the harbour. With children, this is the one we recommend first.

4The hillside and the Pietramaggiore road

One or two kilometres from the centre, quieter self-catering apartments, often with a view of the bay. A car is useful.

On foot, the walk down to the centre is easy, the climb back less so. In town, parking is charged from April to October.

Best for : by car · quiet

Hotels, but also holiday homes and holiday complexes, for a family that needs space.

5The Revellata road

On the west side, towards Notre-Dame de la Serra and the peninsula: fewer hotels, more nature and sunsets.

This is the side of Notre-Dame de la Serra, with its view over the whole bay, and of the Revellata lighthouse, best seen at the end of the day. For the town and the main beach, you will need the car.

Best for : by car

Just one place, an aparthotel. For more choice somewhere quiet, look at the hillside.

6Lumio and Calenzana

About ten kilometres away: Lumio on the slopes facing the bay, Calenzana inland, at the start of the GR20 trail. More peace and space, as long as you have a car. On the coast, the Lumio marina has its own Sant’Ambroggio beach.

Allow about a quarter of an hour to Calvi from either village, outside summer and without stopping.

Best for : by car · quiet

Mostly B&Bs and apartments, no hotels. Calenzana for hikers on the GR20, Lumio for the view of the bay.

Tips

How to choose

Decide on the car first

Without a car, choose the centre or the pine forest, which the Balagne train links to the town. With a car, the hillside, the Revellata road and the villages come into their own.

Think about parking

In town, parking is charged for much of the year, and the citadel is for residents only. Ask your accommodation whether it has parking spaces before you book.

Plan your arrival

There is no regular shuttle between the airport and the town. Plan on a taxi or a hire car, especially if you arrive late.

Lively evenings or quiet nights

The centre stays up late on summer evenings. For a quiet night, look at the citadel, the hillside or the villages instead.

Travelling with a dog

Dogs are not allowed on the pine forest beach. If yours is coming with you, also check the accommodation’s conditions on its Booking page.
