Hotels in Porto-Vecchio: where to stay, area by area

The town for evenings out, the beaches for peace and quiet: the area matters more than the address.

Best for

Porto-Vecchio offers two ways to stay. In town, the upper town and La Marine have mostly hotels, within walking distance of the restaurants, the evening buzz and the ferry port. Around the gulf, the picture changes: holiday residences, houses and villas dominate on the road to Palombaggia, at Santa Giulia and towards Cala Rossa and Saint-Cyprien, to the north.

Choosing the area matters more than choosing the address. In town, a car becomes a headache in summer; near the beaches it is essential, but you are on the sand before the crowds. Families do well at Santa Giulia, and those after peace and quiet under the pines of Palombaggia or on the north side of the gulf.

The areas run from the town out to the beaches. For each one you will read what sets it apart and who it suits, then our places to stay, with their Booking rating and the date it was recorded. The map shows them all, and our tips help you decide. The Ospedale area, up in the hills, does not yet have a place to stay in our selection.

The areas

Where to stay, area by area

5 areas, 22 places to stay · Visit Porto-Vecchio

1The upper town

Inside the citadel, close to the restaurants and the evening bustle. Little parking.

In summer, the upper town is packed: ask your accommodation where to leave the car. The lanes are best explored on foot, from the Genoese gate to the bastion de France.

Best for : on foot · lively in the evening

Mostly hotels, none more than 300 m from place de la République. With children, for the beach, the Palombaggia road or Santa Giulia suit you better.

2La Marine

On the port, below the upper town, convenient if you arrive by ferry.

The upper town and its restaurants are within walking distance, uphill. On the shore of the gulf, the pools of the old salt pans mark the entrance to the town.

Best for : on foot

Two hotels and an apartment, no more than 450 m from the port. For the beaches you then need a car.

3The Palombaggia road

Between the town and the beach, quiet among the pines. A car is essential. See also our beach guide.

In summer, Palombaggia fills up early: staying nearby lets you get there before the crowds. Expect to pay for parking near some beaches.

Best for : by car · quiet · near the beach

Mostly holiday complexes and holiday homes, with one hotel: the area for a week's rental near the beach.

4Santa Giulia

On the bay, for families and water sports. See also our beach guide.

Boats leave from here for the Lavezzi. The centre of Porto-Vecchio is about a quarter of an hour away by car, outside summer and without stopping.

Best for : near the beach · with children · by car

No hotels: holiday complexes, a holiday home and a villa, none more than 650 m from the beach. For a family that wants a kitchen and the beach on foot.

5Cala Rossa and Saint-Cyprien

On the north side of the gulf, more residential and quieter.

Both beaches, with their clear water, are in the commune of Lecci. Allow about half an hour to the centre of Porto-Vecchio, outside summer and without stopping.

Best for : by car · quiet · near the beach

Hotels and holiday complexes, mostly near Saint-Cyprien. If you plan to go into town often, the Palombaggia road is closer to it.

Tips

How to choose

Choose between town and beaches

The upper town and La Marine can be enjoyed on foot; the beaches, south and north of the gulf alike, require a car. Decide what will matter most on your trip before looking at places to stay.

Ask where to park

In summer, the upper town is packed. Before booking, ask the property where to leave the car and whether it has spaces.

Stay near your beach

The big beaches fill up early in summer. Staying nearby gets you there before the crowds, without a long hunt for a space.

Without a car, stay in town

A shuttle bus links Figari airport to Porto-Vecchio bus station all year round. In that case, stay in the upper town or at La Marine, where everything is within walking distance.

Check the date of the rating

Each Booking rating is shown with the month it was recorded. If it is several months old, take a look at the recent reviews on Booking before you book.
