Where to stay

Hotels in Sartène: where to stay, area by area

Few beds in town, more on the coast: in Sartène, the area decides everything.

Best for

Sartène has few places to stay, and many visitors sleep on the coast before coming up to town for the day. In town, the choice comes down to one hotel on the edge of the old town, plus a few hotels and an apartment residence along cours Sœur Amélie and the Propriano road. Outside town, the picture changes: a holiday rental and a lodge in the Rizzanèse valley, and a farm, hotels and a holiday residence on the coast of Tizzano and Roccapina.

For a wider choice, the Gulf of Valinco, at Propriano and Olmeto, remains the simplest option. We include a few places to stay there, and all the others are on our page of places to stay in Propriano.

So the choice is between three kinds of stay: the town on foot, the quiet countryside, or the sea. The areas run from the old town to the coast. For each one you will read what sets it apart and who it suits, then our places to stay, with their Booking rating and the date it was recorded. The map shows them all, and our tips help you decide.

The areas

Where to stay, area by area

5 areas, 16 places to stay · Visit Sartène

1The old town

To sleep among the granite lanes, within walking distance of everything. Few places to stay, and parking is difficult.

Book early for the summer and plan to leave the car below the town.

Best for : on foot

Just one place, a hotel on the edge of the old town. If it is full, cours Sœur Amélie is a few minutes' walk away.

2Cours Sœur Amélie and the edge of town

Easier to reach by car, a few minutes’ walk from place de la Libération.

Sartène’s largest hotels are here and on the road to Propriano, which continues on from the cours.

Best for : by car · on foot

Two hotels and a serviced apartment building: the simplest choice for a one-night stop.

3The Rizzanèse valley

Country houses and gîtes, in peaceful surroundings, between Sartène and Propriano.

Here a car is essential, for shopping as well as for the beach.

Best for : quiet · by car

Two places in the countryside, a lodge and a holiday rental near the Genoese bridge of Spin’a Cavallu.

4The Tizzano and Roccapina coast

For a beach stay, away from the bustle.

The seaside hamlet of Tizzano is a small harbour at the end of the road. Further south, the cove of Roccapina opens out at the foot of the lion rock.

Best for : near the beach · quiet · by car

Three hotels, one of them on Tizzano beach, a holiday complex and a farm in the Ortolo valley.

5The Gulf of Valinco

Propriano and Olmeto have the widest choice of accommodation. See visit Propriano.

Propriano is about 15 minutes from Sartène by car, outside summer and without stopping.

Best for : near the beach · by car

Mostly hotels, in Propriano and Olmeto. For more choice, see our hotels in Propriano.

Tips

How to choose

Book early

Sartène has few places to stay, especially in the old town. For summer, book as soon as your dates are fixed.

Leave the car at the entrance to town

The lanes of the old town are narrow and mostly pedestrianised. Ask your accommodation where to park before you arrive.

Stay on the coast if you want the beach

Many visitors stay on the coast and come up to town for the day. Tizzano, Roccapina or Propriano put you by the water.

Outside town, rely on the car

In the Rizzanèse valley as on the coast, the car is for everything: shopping, restaurants, visits. Sartène has no railway station: the Via Corsica C1 coach line links it to Propriano, but the coast and the countryside require a car.

Check the date of the rating

Each Booking rating is shown with the month it was recorded. If it is several months old, take a look at the recent reviews on Booking before you book.
